The Monastery of Virgin Mary the Girokomitissa is one of the oldest monasteries in Greece, founded in the 10th c. upon the ruins of an ancient temple of the goddess Artemis. Taking its name from a nursing home that existed there during the middle ages, the monastery has followed the history of the wider region of Achaea.

The regional capital of Western Greece, with a history spanning from Prehistory and Classical times to Byzantine and Modern Times, is just a grasp away from home.

The Mycenaean settlement at Voundeni is one of the most prominent sites in the periphery of the Mycenaean world.Excavations in the cemetery and the settlement have established that human presence here for almost 500 years (1500-1000B.C.).
